This month I read The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater.  This book is about Blue, the daughter of a psychic who isn’t psychic herself, but who helps her mom and aunt with their psychic business in certain unusual ways.  Blue wants to have a normal life as a teenager, but she’s always been told that her true love will die at a first kiss and her family has already foreseen the death of her new friend, Gansey.  So Blue must decide how to move forward with her friendship and her knowledge.  I think the theme of Raven Boys was, small decisions can drastically change a life path.

I loved Raven Boys  and would rate it 10/10 because it made me wonder about why Gansey’s death was predicted, and because all the characters and friendships were interesting and well-developed.   I would recommend this book to people who like mystery or paranormal books like City of Bones.  Maggie Stiefvater also wrote the Shiver series so if you liked that, you would definitely like this - it’s even better.

  • Subject line pitch:  Girl Cause of Own Friend’s Death?
  • Book Math:  Fate + Psychic Abilities + Family Obligations = Raven Boys
  • Question pitch: Which is more important, family safety or the truth?
